Calabash Musical Instruments are handmade by me in my tiny wooden workshop.
I’m a musician and a music teacher and fell in love with West African music 25 years ago. Over that time I’ve been crafting and renovating African inspired instruments for myself and fellow musicians.
As with many musicians, the COVID lockdowns hit hard, so I built a specially designed workshop and launched Calabash Musical Instruments, and I’m very happy to be offering the instruments you can see on this site. They are individually made with pride and love.
The instruments are usually made as commissions.
The best thing is if you get in contact so that we can have a chat about making you the perfect instrument.

Whenever I’m not busy with commissions or repairs I make instruments for the shop, which are available off the shelf and are ready for immediate delivery.
African Drum Repair
Having run community drumming workshops for over twenty years,
I’ve repaired and renovated hundreds of djembes and other African drums.
Whether it’s a split skin, something more serious or just a bit of help getting it tuned up,
I’m always very happy to restore someone’s drum to its former glory!
